James Edwin McKinna Obituary
Etowah-- James "Jim" Edwin McKinna, age 84 of Etowah passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, November 24th, 2015 with his beloved dog, Mollie at his side. He was the son of the late William Homer and Gladys Blythe McKinna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Duncan; and his brother, Bill McKinna; and his daughter-in-law, Yvonne McKinna.
He retired from the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War, Cuban Crisis and two tours in Vietnam. He was active in real estate in Henderson and Transylvania Counties until his retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace Gossett McKinna of the home; a daughter, Brenda of Cedar Mountain; a son, Gary of Charlotte; a grandson, Jonathan of Brooklyn, New York; granddaughters, Lindsey and Michaela; and his great-grandson, Jace. Jace and Papa had a special bond. He always brought a smile to Papa's face. They both loved cars and big trucks. He is also survived by an adopted sister, Audrey Schlegel of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho and a special niece, Jackie Gordon (Richard) of Etowah.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28th, 2015 in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Jim's memory be directed to Oak Forest Cemetery Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 1026, Etowah, NC 28729.
