HENDERSONVILLE - After two years of nursing care at Sunnybrook, Janet Friedel died on Jan. 13, 2013, of an incurable brain disease at the age of 80.
Janet was a "Jersey Girl" until moving here with her husband, the late Bob Friedel, in 1999. She grew up in Kearny, N.J. and attended Bucknell University for two years. She worked as an executive secretary for different companies, retiring from Torcon, Inc. of Westfield, N.J. in 1997.
Janet was musical. She sang in requiem oratorios, played the piano and was a Sinatra fan. Her passion was the opera and she attended many performances at the Metropolitan Opera. Music was a big part of her life as her father, George Milano, was a professional musician and entertainer. Many parties were filled with fun and music.
Over the years, Janet had five cats, and she supported animal welfare charities. She was also a very good cook and voracious reader. She served as secretary for the Women's Club of the Henderson County Democratic Party.
In 1954, Janet married David Scott. He died in 1983 and she married Bob Friedel in 1987.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Berman; a nephew, Andy Izatt, and Mr. Friedel's daughter and son.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
If you would like to remember Janet, please make a contribution to Community Partnership for Pets, P.O. Box 1021, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731.
