Jerel William "Jerry" Surrette Obituary
Jerel (Jerry) William Surrette was born on April 6, 1941 and passed away on May 5, 2018 after a short period of declining health.
He was the son of the late Henry and Edgel Ann Surrette Capps. He was preceded in death by his step father Raleigh Capps, two sisters Virginia (Lawrence) Watson and Grace (Paul) Rogers, two half brothers, David and Lewis Surrette and four half sisters, Frances Strickland, Vana Lee Burnette, Mary Lanning and Irma Surrette.
Jerry retired from Dupont in Brevard, NC after 34 years of service. Jerry was a past master of Kedron Masonic Lodge and a member of Hendersonville Shrine Club, Oasis Shriners and Scottish Rites, York Rites and Knights Templar. He was very proud of his heritage and to be a member of Sons of American Revolution (SAR) through his ancestor, Lambert Clayton, of Transylvania County.
Jerry was an avid trap shooter and manager of Buncombe County Wildlife Club for many years. He, as a certified NRA instructor enjoyed teaching the joy and responsibility of shooting sports to anyone interested. He proudly taught his son, Scott Surrette and granddaughter Alli to shoot clay targets. Jerry loved his family and his home and nothing made him happier than sharing a meal, telling a story or building a beautiful rock wall.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Ella Corn Surrette, one son Scott Surrette and his wife Carol Ann, and the light of his life, granddaughter Allison Surrette and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Monday May 7, 2018 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville with the Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating. Masonic rites will be provided by Kedron Masonic Lodge #387 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
