John Arwe Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-John Arwe, 83, passed away at his home on September 10, 2015 after suffering a series of strokes over the past four years. He lived a full life and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warm smiles, for which he will long be remembered. "Be in your Glory!"
John is predeceased by his mother Grace Arwe, father Theodore Arwe, Sr., and a brother, Teddy, Jr.
John grew up in Pearl River, NY, graduating from Pearl River High School in 1950. He instigated and participated in many shenanigans with his life-long hometown friend, John Wilcox. They worked for Wilcox's father in his landscaping business as kids, raced a stock car together in the 1940s, and shared a passion for farming and "shooting-the-bull". John served stateside in the Army during the Korean War before returning to his hometown and working for 41 years in the print shop at Lederle Laboratories pharmaceuticals (currently, Pfizer). He seemed to possess a never-ending trove of stories about his younger years, including the wild-and-wooly pranks conducted with Wilcox which he enjoyed sharing with friends and family as many times as they would listen.
After retiring in 1991, John and his family moved to Hendersonville, where John started his own landscaping company and employed every member of his immediate family, not withstanding his wife, Janet, whom he courted in the 1970s with a can of WD-40 in one hand and a bouquet of roses in the other. He instilled the values of honest work and faith in his Lord Jesus in his children and lived a life truly reflective of that faith.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Janet, as well as four children: John Arwe Jr. of Poughkeepsie, NY; Heather Alverson (Brandon) of Berthoud, CO; Daniel Arwe (Jana) of Missouri City, TX; and Kyle Arwe (Amanda) of Knoxville, TN. The joy of his life was his 9 grandchildren, all of whom converged upon their "Pop" this July to celebrate his 83rd birthday.
We rejoice in his Heavenly homecoming where we suspect he is tending a huge vegetable garden for the Lord and whistling one of his favorite hymns. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at First Alliance Church,
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Care Partners Adult Care Service www.carepartners.org and or First Alliance Church 1821 Windsor Drive, Laurel Park, NC.
An online register book is available for family and friends by visiting www.thosshepherd.com. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors and Cremation Memorial Center are in charge of arrangements.
