COLUMBUS, NC-- US Air Force Major (ret.) John Mark Vice passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 12, 2015.
John was born in Petersburg, KY on October 26, 1943, the son of the late Virgil and Florence Vice. He was reared in Petersburg, KY. John graduated from Boone County High School in 1961; where he met Myra June Otten, whom he married in 1962. They were married 53 years.
He graduated with honors from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in aeronautical engineering, and earned his M.S. in aerospace engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a founding partner of Skyward Limited in Dayton, OH. His long career in aircraft survivability was recognized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and his work continues to contribute to the safety of our country.
In 2002, he and June moved to Hendersonville, NC where he enjoyed hiking with June, running and playing golf. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, and served several roles in the Henderson County Republican Party.
John is survived by his wife June; two daughters, Melissa Polizzotto and her husband Larry of Gilbert, AZ and Christine Naspinski and her husband Ed of Magnolia, TX; a sister, Beth Carpenter of Cincinnati, OH; and three brothers, Dennis Vice and his wife Carol of Owensboro, KY, Paul Vice and his wife Alison of Louisville, KY, and Glenn Vice and his wife Gwen of Hebron, KY.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville with Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
