John T. "Jack" McCabe passed away at home Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the age of 91, He was the son of the late Thomas E. and Marie (Mulvanny) McCabe. Jack was born may 14, 1922 in Chilton, Wisconsin and was raised in Milwaukee where he attended Marquette High School.
In August of 1942 he enlisted in the United States Air Corp where he served as a
Bombardier-D R Navigator. After he returned home he attended Pabst Brewmaster Trade School and began a distinguished career in the brewing industry. Learning the business he went on to become an International Brewmaster and businessman; retiring from A. Gusmer, Inc. in the early 1990's. He was considered an expert in his field and authored "The Practical Brewer, Third Edition".
Jack resided in Smoke Rise, New Jersey where he met Joanne (Lavoie) McCabe. They retired to Flat Rock, NC in 1992. Jack was a lover of the outdoors and throughout his life enjoyed many activities including fishing, sailing, playing tennis and in his retirement playing golf.
Jack is survived by Joanne, his loving wife of 40 years; daughters Kathleen Ewald of Palm Desert, CA and Mary Pat Newman of Arroyo Grande, CA; step-sons Richard Lavoie of Norwich, CT, Michael Lavoie and Robert Lavoie of Kensington, MD and William Lavoie of Rochester, NY; step-daughter Denise Lavoie; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. His son Kevin Thomas McCabe preceded him in death.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday August 27, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Namdev Dagam officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Monday August 26, 2013 at the funeral home.
