HENDERSONVILLE - Johnnie Sue Curtis Baker, 83, our beloved Mother, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Dalton, Ga., to the late Homer Curtis and Ruby Curtis Sandow and was the wife of the late John Thomas (Tommy) Baker, who passed away in 1978.
She moved to Big Willow from Miami in 1971. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Etowah Horse Shoe Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and served as their President for 11 years.
She was loved by all her family and friends. Her kids wanted everyone to know she was the best Mom ever and we were all blessed to have her as Mom. Thanks to all who made her life so special and all the ladies and men at Etowah Horse Shoe Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, she loved you.
She is survived by two sons, John A. and Shari Baker, of Newnan, Ga., and Terry A. and Pamela Baker, of Big Willow; one daughter, Donna Roberts, of Big Willow; 16 grandkids; 18 great-grandkids; two great-great-grandkids and very special friends, Wayne and Alice Taylor and Ed Whitehead.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Belinda J. Papineau and Patty Baker Garner; son, Tommy L. Baker; three grandchildren, Charles W. Garner Jr., Timothy Garner and Cori Garner Schweitzer, and a sister, Vivian O'Dell.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Thomas Shepherd and Sons Funeral Directors and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Beulah Baptist Church. The Rev. Dewey Barnwell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Etowah-Horse Shoe Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
