HENDERSONVILLE-Joseph Earl Brendan Kraft, 51, of Hendersonville passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 from cancer at the Elizabeth House.
Joe was born November 23, 1962, in Mississippi to Paul Kraft and the late Ida Mae Poling Kraft. Joe graduated high school and then served in the US Navy from 1982 to 1986 aboard the USS Iwo Jima. He went on to graduate with a BA from the University of Mississippi in 1990 and moved to Asheville, NC in 1994. Joe married Rhonda Decker on April 13, 2013 and they lived in Hendersonville, NC.
A Roman Catholic, Joe was very active in each parish he lived, serving on various councils, singing in the choir, membership in the Knights of Columbus, and generally pitching in whenever and wherever possible. Joe worked for the National Climatic Data Center (NOAA) as a meteorological technician, a profession he learned during his service in the Navy, where he worked in the weather office. He was a professed member of the Dominican Laity within the Catholic Church and was a very steadfast and passionate follower of Christ. He also loved railroads, his cats, and naval history of any kind.
Joe is survived by his wife, Rhonda Kraft, as well as his immediate family: father Paul Kraft, Katherine Fletcher, Peggy Harkins, David Kraft, Lisa Duvall, and Bill Kraft. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 14, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Martin Schratz officiating. Interment will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, at Thos. Shepherd & Sons Funeral Home concluding with a Rosary.
