Katherine Lewis Obituary
Katherine Elizabeth Wilkie Lewis was promoted to her heavenly home and reward on Monday, July 11, 2016.
Born September 2, 1931, she was the first daughter of the late Shelton Robert ("Check") Wilkie and Myrtle Lee Harris Wilkie. She was a loving sister to her deceased brothers Bill and Don Wilkie, as well as her sisters Ina Jane Wilkie Hendrix (Bill, deceased), Sharon Wilkie Israel (Roy) and Ethel Wilkie Gragg.
On May 31, 1947, she "stretched the truth" about her age to be able to marry her late husband of 43 years, Willard Lenard Lewis. Her dream of being a mother came true as they added Nancy Lewis Praytor (Jackie), Benny (Sharon, deceased), Steve (Susan) and Jeff (Kelly) to their family. She then became the precious "Mamaw", "Mamaw Kat" and "Ninny" to her grandchildren Shannon Praytor Allison (Kelly), Lee Praytor (Natalie), Brooke Praytor Tate, Christopher Lewis, Felicia Lewis Haynes (Jeremiah), Patrick Lewis and Alicia Lewis; great grandchildren Sydney and Kaiden Allison, Kassidey Deveraux, Ethan Lewis, Keegan Lewis and Trinity, Amy, Noah and Blake Haynes and step great grandchildren Allen and Nathan Case. She is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her great grandsons Chase and Chandler Praytor.
Katherine was a woman of strength and had many talents such as painting, poetry, needlework, gardening and cooking. She had a heart to help and care for others which she put to use as a CNA working at Thoms Rehabilitation, Flesher's Fairview Health Care Center and other care facilities over the years. She could always be counted on for an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, to be your biggest supporter and to be a prayer warrior for you. She was a Proverbial Woman, living out Proverbs 31:27 "speaking with wisdom and having faithful instruction on her tongue".
Her life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel; the Reverend Billy Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
An online register book is available for family and friends by visiting www.thosshepherd.com.
Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.
