Lillie Mae (Payne) Russell Obituary
EDNEYVILLE-Lillie Mae Payne Russell of Edneyville, NC departed this earth for her Heavenly home on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Gabe Edward Payne and Nora Kay Robinson Payne. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, William Nelson Russell; Daughters Barbara Ann Russell Freeman and her husband Alvin of Lake Lure, NC and Dottie Mae Russell of Edneyville, NC; Brothers William, George, Frank, Neuman and Henry; Sisters Laura Bell Ledbetter, Bernice Davis, Viola White, Hattie Clayton and Ann Spence. Lillie is survived by Sons: Q. Norris Russell and Nelson Odell Russell (Doris) of Hendersonville, NC; Daughters Shirley Ann Russell Davis and Brenda Joyce Russell Wilkerson of Hendersonville; Grandsons: Reginald Freeman (Judy) of Maryland, Rocklin Davis of Edneyville, Roger Wilkerson, Jr. of Florida; Granddaughters: Zandra Brown of New Jersey, Shari Montgomery (Mike) of Wake Forest, NC and Alisande Wilkerson of Greensboro, NC; sister Matilda Calloway (Amos) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Brother Gabe Edward, Jr of Hendersonville; five great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; five Sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lillie was a dedicated, faithful member of Blue Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, Edneyville, NC, where she worked in many capacities. She organized and directed a young adult choir, taught Sunday School for children, was the Church Clerk/Secretary/Program Chairperson for many years and sang on the Senior Choir. She and her sister-in-law Sarah Russell (now deceased) organized a youth choir later, who traveled to many other Church's to sing; and she also held activities for the youth at the Church to keep them out of the streets. Lillie attended Blue Ridge Baptist Church and traveled with the Church to many events up until the last few weeks before her passing. She was also very active in the Mud Creek Missionary Baptist Association, where she was a member of the Women's Home and Foreign Missionary Society and sang in the Associational Choir and an avid supporter of Rev. Wesley Grant's Count on Me Ministry. Lillie was also a member of the Ladies in White, and was well known in Religious Circles in Asheville, Hendersonville and surrounding areas. She was loved by all who knew her and will surely be missed.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held for Lillie on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Blue Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Edneyville, N.C. Visitation will be at 12:00 noon and the Homegoing Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Blue RidgeBaptist Church.
