Lois F. Dawson Obituary
On March 23rd, Lois F. Dawson, born Lois Faulkner on April 17, 1924, passed away from the life we shared together with her on this earth. We know she will continue her life in our hearts and through her beautiful shared spirit within all who knew her.
In her final days she was surrounded and by her adoring husband of nearly 70 years- Robert Franklin Dawson- and four generations of her closest family and loved ones. She passed in peace- even in her inner smile and the wonderful humor which she displayed in life and right through her last moments.
Lois and Bob moved 30 years ago to Hendersonville/Asheville from Western New York. They walked together through her beloved mountains-typically stopping along the way to identify each of the flowers, plants, and birds encountered.
Lois was a wonderful mom, a writer, and a perpetual student of life, philosophy and the natural world.
Born in 1924 to Eva Bowman Faulkner and Richard Archibald Faulkner in Arlington Massachusetts, she spent her childhood in Maine and Connecticut. She was a graduate of Greenwich High School in Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut, and completed her Bachelor of Arts in American Literature in 1945 at Middlebury College in Vermont. After her marriage to Bob in 1947, the couple lived in Tennessee, where she worked as a teacher and co-editor of the Oak Ridge Journal.
Lois and Bob traveled from Western North Carolina throughout the country, always happy to be back home in these mountains.
In addition to her husband Bob, Lois is survived by her three children, Deborah Dawson, David Dawson (Chris Cuda), Melissa Dawson-Ruggles (Stephen Ruggles), seven grandchildren- Phaedra Xanthos, Alexander Wasif, Susannah Wasif, Rebecca Wasif, Taryn Dawson-Sivalia, Benjamin Dawson-Sivalia, Bridger Dawson, and three great-grandchildren-Owen Wasif, Adrian Wasif, and Zachary Xanthos Fainstein.
A private memorial celebration will be held for family only. In lieu of flowers please make donations to: Care Partners Solace Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC, 28813.
