Mae Dunnavant Sizemore Obituary
HAMPTON, NJ-Mae Dunnavant Sizemore, 89, formerly of Henderson County N.C. and Farmville Va. passed away on August 10, 2013, at her daughter's home in Hampton, NJ. She is pre-deceased by Ord Kelly Sizemore, Jr. and grandson Patrick Kelly Sizemore.
She is survived by her 4 children, Dr. Ron Sizemore of Wilmington N. C., Barbara Roseman of Hampton NJ, Mike Sizemore of Candler, N. C. and Rick Sizemore of Arden N.C. and grandchildren, Erica, Sara, Matt, Rob, and Cory. She has one great granddaughter, Alexa Kelly Nichols.
Mae was born August 29, 1923, in Charlotte Court House Va to the late Leroy Cole and Ethel Sprinkle Dunnavant. She is survived by her sisters, Minnie Pridgen, Frances Wilmouth, and Betty Cook. She is pre-deceased by one sister, Helen Matthews and 2 brothers, Leroy and Marion Dunnavant. She graduated from Longwood University. in Va. on D-Day 1944 with a teaching degree and lived overseas in Athens, Greece and Wiesbaden, Germany with her family. She taught elementary children in several public and private schools, including Fletcher Elementary School and Prince Edward Academy in Farmville Va.
Mae was an especially loving, patient and caring mother. She enjoyed nature including working in her prized flower garden and feeding her birds. Mae also had a large extended family that loved her dearly with many wonderful friends and neighbors. Later in her life, one "very special" friend was the late T. W. "Winky" Smith and also his wonderful daughter, Lorraine Smith of Farmville, Va.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Fletcher United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Eblen Foundation and Hunterdon Healthcare Hospice in NJ.
