Mary Joel "Jo" Soyak Obituary
Mary Joel Soyak (Jo), age 73, of Hendersonville died Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 at Elizabeth House. She was born September 27th, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; a daughter of the late Andrew Harold Anderson, Sr. and Mary Emma Anderson. She was the third of fourteen children. In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her sister Jane F Anderson.
Jo was a resident of Henderson County. As a military wife, she mainly resided in Bel Air Maryland before moving to Hendersonville in 2003. She was a graduate of Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan where she received her Bachelor of Chemistry degree. She married John Andrew Soyak on June 25, 1965. She spent many hours volunteering with the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. She especially enjoyed creating a loving home filled with handcrafted artwork, designing cakes for special occasions and entertaining her large family.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Andrew Soyak. She is also survived by two daughters, Katherine J Therrien and her husband, Robert, grandsons Lucas and Tyler, all of Cary, North Carolina; and Andrea J Williams and her husband, Richard, grandson Connor, and granddaughter Isabelle, all of Bel Air, Maryland. Her surviving siblings are Andrew H. Anderson, Jr., Sister Agnes Anderson, IHM, M Beth Anderson, J Fred Anderson, Ruth A. Cornwell, H Greg Anderson, Robert B. Anderson, Mark W Anderson, J Chris Anderson, Geralyn T. Saxton, B Paul Anderson, and S Carole Caddy. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Thos. Shepherd & Son, Church Street Chapel, with Sister Agnes Anderson, IHM, officiating .Burial will follow at 2:00 pm at the State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Thos. Shepherd and Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations, which will be used toward a memorial in Jo's honor.
