Nancy (Greig) Baldwin Obituary
Nancy Greig Baldwin died peacefully at Elizabeth House, a hospice in Flat Rock, NC, on May 24, 2015, at the age of 84. She had suffered a stroke.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Ray Baldwin, of Hendersonville, NC; her sister, Patricia Varn Somerscales (Euan), of Troy, NY; her three children, Mary Melissa Greig (Glenn Hoagland) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Emily Allison Greig McFaul of Seattle, WA, and Wm. Smith Greig (Holly) of Washington, D.C.; and her granddaughter, Emily Smith McFaul, of Portland, OR.
Nancy was born on September 15, 1930, in Elmira, NY, to Harold and Emily Varn. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1952 with a degree in home economics. She received her master's degree, also in home economics, from Washington State University in 1975.
Nancy married W. Smith Greig in 1955. They made their home in East Lansing, MI, for many years before moving to Pullman, WA, in 1970. Smith and Nancy retired to Hendersonville in 1986. After Smith passed away in 1992, Nancy met Ray Baldwin, of Hendersonville. Nancy and Ray were married in 1993.
Nancy was accomplished at sewing, cooking, and homemaking. She enjoyed teaching sewing classes to people of all ages. Nancy took great interest in staying informed of current events. She especially loved visiting her far-flung family, as well as traveling within the United States and abroad. Her involvement with many local charities, including Four Seasons Hospice, was a tribute to her kind and generous nature. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Hendersonville. Nancy would regularly tell her children that she was busy, busy, busy.
Nancy's funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 1 p.m., with reception to follow. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Nancy's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
