Obituary Condolences

HENDERSONVILLE-- Nancy Louise Park Moreland, 76, of Hendersonville passed away suddenly on Friday, December 12, 2014 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Elkton, TN, she was the daughter of the late James Howard Park and Mattilou Taylor Park. Nancy was a 1956 graduate of Mainland HS in Daytona Beach, FL, and earned her RN degree from Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, FL, two years later. She began her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at J. Hillis Miller Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida. She married Charlie Moreland in 1960 and they moved to Raleigh, NC with their one year old son Cal in 1964. They became a part of the North Carolina State University community. Nancy was a stay at home mom to three children for 12 years and then returned part time to her nursing career for 15 years at Student Health Service at NC State. After their three children completed college, Nancy went to college and in 1993 earned her BS degree (Summa Cum Laude) in health education from the NC State School of Education. From 1993-1999 Nancy worked for Kaiser Permanente in Raleigh as a diabetes care coordinator and managed a panel of patients for a highly integrated system for diabetes care. After Kaiser Permanente closed their offices in NC, Nancy joined the NC Department of Health and Human Services as an advisor to the Department of Rural Health Diabetes.
She and Charlie retired in 2002 and moved to Hendersonville, NC where Nancy continued her diabetes care work at the Free Clinic Hendersonville. She was always an active church member in Raleigh at Highland Methodist Church and at St James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville where she was a member of the alter guild and numerous outreach programs. For the past 20 years Nancy was an advocate for the rights of mentally ill persons and their families and played a leadership role for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Four Seasons in Hendersonville. She organized Information/Education programs, taught Family to Family classes and was the team leader for the Bridges of Hope program.
Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was always available to help and to give her time and many talents to her family and to anyone in need of support. She leaves behind all of us who have watched her spread love and joy wherever she went. Our final tribute will be for us to try to measure up and finish her work.
Surviving is her spouse of 54 years, Charlie Moreland; sons, Cal Moreland and wife, Cheryl, of Greenville, SC, and David Moreland of Hendersonville; daughter, Lin Moreland Weiker and husband, Gary, of Albemarle, NC; brother, James Howard Park Jr., and wife, Joanne, of Dayton Beach, FL; sister, Carolyn Park Peacock and husband, Jim, of Gainesville, GA, and grandchildren, Russ, Reese Weiker, Callie, Caroline Moreland.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. James Episcopal Church, Hendersonville, NC. Dr. Joel Hafer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Garden at St. James Episcopal Church.
