Nicholas Henry Joseph Ball Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-Nicholas Henry Joseph Ball passed away peacefully at the age of 99 October 27th, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was born on March 19th, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John and Margaret Ball who had both immigrated to Chicago from Ireland. In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by the love of his life Josephine Petroff his wife of 52 years; as well as his brothers and sisters; Ester, Johnny, Jimmy, Francis, Kay, Margie, Joan and Robert.
Nicholas attended Parochial schools in Chicago serving in Altar boy during Mass. He remained a devout Catholic all his life and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Hendersonville, NC.
He proudly served his country as a medic in the US Army during WWII.
In 1979 Nicholas retired from Krone Die Casting Corporation as a Quality Control Manager and left the Chicago suburbs to live in the mountains of Hendersonville, NC.
Nick enjoyed golfing, keeping current with the news, driving around in his red Ford Mustang and traveling with his wife Josie and his kids. His love of traveling took him across the United States, Mexico, Canada and Ireland.
Nick had seen a lot of changes in his 100 years and had a zest for life and learning which kept him young beyond his years.
He is survived by long-time friend Sonia Fryer of Hendersonville, NC, three daughters; Colleen Morrison of Evanston, Illinois, Camille Ball of Chicago, Illinois, Nikki Ball of Flat Rock, North Carolina; and one son Terry Ball and his wife Sandy Johnson Ball of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was a proud grandpa of his only grandchild Ashley of Hendersonville, NC. One God Child, Lois Brindisi of Chicago, Illinois; and a grand cat Squeaker Ball of Flat Rock, NC.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.
