Parker D. Roberts Obituary
Mr. Parker D. Roberts, of Hendersonville, NC and formerly of Cromwell, Ct., died unexpectedly at home on July 9, 2016. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1944.
After retirement from Moore Medical Co. in CT, Parker's great joy was raising German Shepherd puppies for Fidelco to become guide dogs for the blind. Parker and Judy raised eight puppies over many years, aided by their own faithful pet, Opal.
Parker and Judy moved to Hendersonville in 2010, felt blessed to meet so many wonderful friends and neighbors, and thoroughly enjoyed our lovely mountains. Parker was a walker/hiker always accompanied by Judy and hi faithful Shorthaired Collie Trey.
Parker was so generous with his time volunteering at Pardee Hospital where he served four years as Vice President and then President of the auxiliary. He continued as a Pardee volunteer delivering newspapers to patients. Recently their collie Trey became certified as a therapy dog who visited patients in the hospital. In addition Parker and Judy volunteered at Flat Rock Playhouse, the Apple festival, and the Garden Jubilee.
Both Judy and Parker joined the First United Methodist Church where Parker sang in the 8:30 choir, the Solace Choir and served as cantor.
He and Judy have enjoyed playing bridge where they have made many close friends including Dan and Sue Meyers and Claudia and Ron Schopper with whom they have vacationed several times. Mary Jane Osborn and Phyllis Procopio and Peggy and Joe Cramer are wonderful friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Judy Bryant Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville with the Reverend Mark Ralls and Reverend Rhett Carson officiating. Inurnment at the church's Memorial Garden will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Parker's memory to the church at 204 6th Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
