FOREST CITY--Robert Lewis Tate, age 78 of US Highway 221 South, Forest City died Friday, October 18, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1935 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Roy and Ethel Alexander Tate. Robert was retired from Stonecutter Mills Corporation where he was Superintendent of Preparation, a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and served on various church committees. He also served twelve years in the North Carolina National Guard, as well as a former board member of SDO Fire Department and was currently serving as Treasurer of the Fireman's Relief Fund. Robert was a true sportsman and an avid quail hunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William V. Tate and his sisters, Pauline Tate, Jean Carpenter, and Christine White. Robert was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Toms Tate of the home, a daughter, Lisa Tate Apodaca and her husband Tom of Hendersonville, a sister, Lois Tate Goode and her husband Francis of Rutherfordton, and two grandchildren, Brandon Apodaca and Tate Apodaca both of Hendersonville.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Sunday, October 20, 2013 in the New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Matheny and Reverend Ad Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the church on Sunday afternoon.
