Royce Cookson Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-Royce Cookson, 84 of Hendersonville, died Wednesday November 19, 2014. He was son of the late Bertha Kirk and Earl Cookson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Russell, Albert, Quentin, Ernest, and Earl Cookson and his sisters Bertha Pate, Ethel Gardner and Jean Whitehead.
A Native of N. Scituate, Rhode Island, Royce met Jeanne at Biloxi, Mississippi at Keesler Air Force Base where he was a Sergeant and she was an assistant bookkeeper. After being acquainted for three years and dating for less than one year, they married on December 3, 1955. After discharge from the military, Royce attended Southern Missionary College in Collegedale, Tennessee graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He then worked with Celotex Corporation and later International Paper Corporation as an Industrial Sales Representative. After his retirement Royce continued working part time as a courier for a local business until a few years ago. He was proud of his family and happiest when he was surrounded by them. Royce was a very active member in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was always a tireless worker with missions, disaster relief fund raising and church leadership. He was also involved in many church building projects. Royce enjoyed going on walks or working in the yard. He also enjoyed writing poetry and reading. He was a fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football and the Atlanta Braves baseball teams. Royce loved to be around people and will be missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne Cookson of 59 years and three children: Patricia Golden of Fort Worth, Texas, Joyce Knight of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Dana Cookson of Arden, North Carolina. Royce has 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his sisters Bernice Hyman of Dublin, New Hampshire and Joyce Whitehead of N. Kingstown, Rhode Island and a brother Gleason Cookson of Celebration, Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. December 3, 2014 at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior at Shepherds Memorial Park in the Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow.
