Talmadge Lyda Obituary
Talmadge Lyda, 91, of Hendersonville, went home to heaven on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 to be with his Lord and Savior and with his wife Annie. He was born in Edneyville, on February 5, 1925 to Zachary "Doc" and Ethel Lyda. He was one of 11 children. He was also preceded in passing by brothers Allard Lyda and Johnny "Bud" Lyda; sisters Jessie Barnwell, Edna Johnson, Dee Searcy, Frances Grasty, Hazel Lyda, Nell Cagle and Jean Capps.
Talmadge and Annie were married 61 years. She departed July 16, 2010. He was the loving father of daughter, Nancy Blanchard and husband Buddy of Saluda; son, Michael and fiancé Beth Wilson of the home. His grandchildren thought he was the best "PawPaw" in the world, Lori Blanchard and fiancé, Joe McCraw, of Columbus, Julie Blanchard and husband, Kyle Ramsey, of Dana, Elliott Lyda of the home, Caitlin Shore and, Dustin, of Edneyville, and Caleb Lyda and fiancé Samantha Kirkpatrick of Edneyville; great-grandchildren, Emmaline Shore, Leann Lyda, and Dillon Shore; brother, Donald Lyda of Hendersonville; sister-in-law Virginia Lyda of Fletcher; brother-in-law Ed Capps of Mountain Home; beloved in-laws Fleet and JoAnn Cairnes of Horse Shoe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Talmadge attended Edneyville School. He enlisted in the US Army but was discharged in a few months due to the ending of World War II. He worked for a year in an airplane factory in Maryland; at Chipman LaCrosse Hosiery Mill, until it closed; then at Diamond Brand Camping Products. He had a roadside fruit stand with his brother-in-law, Grady Johnson, called Lum and Abner's and worked his small apple orchard in Edneyville and took care of Annie.
He was a faithful member of Fruitland Baptist Church for over 50 years. He especially loved his Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
Friends and family will be received Sunday afternoon, September 25 from 2-4 pm at Fruitland Baptist Church. A graveside service will be at 2 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Tuesday September 27 with Dr. Michael Smith officiating. At all other times the family will be at the home. Memorials may be made to the Fruitland Baptist Church Building Fund, 150 College St, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
