Theresa Dawn "Terri" (Ware) Childs Obituary
Hendersonville, NC--
Theresa Dawn Ware Childs (Terri) passed away peacefully at home on November 3rd, 2018 after a well fought battle with cancer. She was born in Macon, Georgia on January 12th, 1956 to Macon natives Glenda Evans Hampton (previously Ware) and Charles Edward Ware. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather Dwight Hampton Sr., mother and father in law Jane and Robert Childs, and husband's brother Robert Childs II.
Terri truly loved her hometown of Macon, primarily working in the restaurant business, where she met her husband James Philip (Phil) Childs of Hendersonville. They moved to Greensboro, NC where their daughters Casey Layne Childs and Kimberly Dawn Childs were born and Terri received a cosmetology degree from Guilford Tech. The family moved back to Hendersonville in 1991.
Terri worked with her husband at area restaurants and helped to open Savannah Beach Grill and Outback Steakhouse. Later, Terri had her own house cleaning business and helped to run a home services business with her husband. More recently, she worked at the Elk's Lodge. She was also involved in fundraising events for several area charities over the years, such as Relay for Life, local school fundraisers and Celebrate Youth.
Her most cherished career was that of "Mom", her daughters were her world, and she excelled at that calling.
Terri is survived and will be missed by her husband James "Phil" Childs, daughters Casey Childs and Kimberly Childs, sisters Cindi Smith and Stephanie Pierce (Sherman Pierce), brothers Charles Ware II and Dwight Hampton II (Mary Hampton), her siblings in law Anne Shipman, Alice Cochran (Steve Cochran), Martha Pryor (Al Pryor), and nephews and nieces, Michael Tinsley, Scott Tinsley, Trey Childs, Elizabeth Shipman, Aaron Childs, Joshua Saltz, Ryan Smith, Chase Cochran, Katelyn Pierce, Bowman Hampton and Gracie Hampton.
On Sunday, November 11th at 2:30 PM, the funeral will be held at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service on 1101 Greenville Hwy, with a Celebration of Life to follow at The Elks Lodge in Hendersonville on 546 N Justice St from 3:30 PM to 6 PM.
