HENDERSONVILLE-Tom Martin, 98, from a legion of Irish family, originally from Chicago, IL, and more recently from Holly Hill, FL, via Hendersonville, died Monday, February 23, 2015. His wife of 70 years, Mary Louise Dennis (California) preceded him in February 2010. He leaves daughters, Ani (Steve) Zigan, Lynn Dohrmann, Janice (John Mainka) Martin, and Margie Jo; and sons, Thomas and Michael (Marilyn Thompson), as well as a complete orchestra of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
During his life he was a process engineer, a tool and die designer, a machine maintenance foreman at Picatinny Arsenal, and Chief Inspector. He owned many businesses to include a real estate firm in West Chicago; apartments, offices, warehouse and a trucking company out of Miami, FL; a small farm in Saluda; the Rainbow and Villa Capri motels, Tom Martin Realty and Sam's Coin Shop in Hendersonville. Tom was a founding shareholder of Autumn Care Nursing facility in Saluda, one of nine founders of the original Hendersonville real estate multiple listing service, and Elks Lodge life member on the building committee to construct the current Hendersonville Lodge. A man of restless spirit, innate curiosity, indomitable assertiveness and keen perception, he lived as the song title proclaimed… "I did it my way" ……May he rest in peace.
