KNOXVILLE, TENN. - Vera Eldora Franklin died Saturday, Feb. 9, in Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.
A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Maude Gallamore and was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carlyle Franklin, who died in 1999, and by her sister, Frances Ownbey, and her brother, Charles Gallamore.
She was a graduate of Biltmore High School and a member of South Buncombe Baptist Church.
A homemaker and mother of five sons, she was affectionately known by many as "Grammy".
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law: Tom and Cindy, Doug and Monica, Mike and Sheila, Rodney and Ashley and Ric; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by Pastor Roy Waldroup, with special music by David Crow. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Enka conducted by the Rev. Rick Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. One of her favorite songs is "Just One Rose Will Do."
