1918 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
HENDERSONVILLE-Walter Gunther of Hendersonville, NC died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Gunther was born June 23, 1918 in New York City to the late Walter and Rosa Gunther. He attended Fairleigh Dickenson University of New Jersey until drafted into the US Army. Before leaving for Europe to fight in WW II, Walter married Marie Klotzbach on August 14, 1942. He then went to Europe to be involved with the Battle of the Bulge and was active in the liberation of many German Concentration Camps. He retired from the US Army with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the War he returned to his wife and his college education at Farileigh Dickenson where he graduated with a Masters in Science. His knowledge of Science helped lead him to his career as a High School Science Teacher in Bergenfield, NJ for more than twenty years. He was the founder and President of Meditation Workshops and taught a course on Silver Mind Control. Walter was active with the Old Tappan Lions Club and was a founding member of Trinity Reform Church in Old Tappan, NJ.
Walter and his wife Marie retired to Hendersonville in 1989.
Services will be held at a later date in New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Marie K. Gunther, their daughters Linda Bookach of Northfield, NJ and Carol Dena of Culpepper, VA. Three grandchildren Deborah Went, Kimberly Harris and Kristen Dena; three great-grandchildren, Kendal Went, Lexi Harris and Ashton Harris.
