William Eugene "Skip" Skipper Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE-William Eugene "Skip" Skipper, 61, of Hendersonville died Saturday August 16, 2014 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Mr. Skipper was born February 17, 1953 in Rutherfordton County to the late William Earl Skipper and Doris Skipper Williams. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Diane Jackson.
Skip loved his wife and two daughters. He leaves a strong legacy behind. He was a hard worker, did everything with excellence, was funny, made his word county, served others, and was a good steward of his time, money, resources and business.
He always had a project going on. When he was not at the shop or working on a project, you could find him at Lake Lure, coaching his grandson in baseball, watching dance recitals, cheering on his kids and grandkids in sports, driving his classic VW's in parades, cutting grass, or enjoying time with his wife, family and friends.
He founded and was the president of the VW's Forever Club. He was an active and visible business owner in his community, having operated Skip's Volkswagen Service since 1977.
Skip's family and friends remember him best and most fondly as a husband, daddy, papaw, race car driver, business owner, gardener, baseball coach, dance recital supporter. The "Lawn Ranger" captain of his pontoon boat and someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife Pamela Staton Skipper, daughter of Tammie Skipper Sullivan, her husband Drew and their children Lawson, Finley, and Arden Sullivan, all of Horse Shoe; daughter Tonya Skipper Malloy and her husband Randy and their children Bailey, Landon, and Maggie Malloy, all of Lake Lure; brother Mark Skipper of Mills Spring, sister Susie Gilbert of Inman, SC; other survivors include several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. The family will receive friends following the service.
Flowers are appreciated as well as donations that may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
An online register book is available for family and friends by visiting www.thosshepherd.com. Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
