William Leonard Banks Obituary
HENDERSONVILLE- William Leonard Banks, 78, better known as "Doc" was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He passed away after a brief illness Monday evening, May 19, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. Leonard was the son of the late Walter G. & Nellie Drake Banks of Hendersonville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann King Banks and two sons, William Kenneth Banks and James Dean Banks.
Leonard was an independent owner operator for WL Banks Trucking Company for many years. He enjoyed driving his old trucks, raising and riding horses. He also loved raising the last of his oldest brother, Creed Banks' hogs. "Doc" also loved spending time with his beloved grandson and running buddy, Austin Banks, as well as many other treasured family members. Leonard lived to make people laugh and was always there to give his friends and family a needed smile and helping hand.
He is survived by his sister Ruby Lee Banks and sons & daughters; Terry Lee Banks (Lisa), Dennis Leonard Banks, Christopher Brian Banks (Annette), Lorie Ann Banks and his grandchildren; Austin, Amanda, Amber, Bobby, Benji, Elijah, Kayla Ann, Jamie, Tiffany, as well as many great grandchildren; extended family members Pam Banks and Josh Smartt, Todd Banks, Penny Banks and many nieces and nephews.
All are invited to the memorial service which will be held Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2014 at 12:00pm at the Upward Kelly Memorial Church, located at 1130 Upward Road, Flat Rock, NC, with Pastor Doug Carroll officiating. Friends and family are also invited to attend the celebration of life dinner immediately following the memorial at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, your donation in Mr. Banks' name to Four Seasons Hospice/Elizabeth House is greatly appreciated.
