TUXEDO - Walter Ray Pace, 88, of Tuxedo, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 16, 2013.
He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Henderson County to the late Rupie Pace and Lola Ward Pace.
As a lifelong resident of Tuxedo, he was a member of Tuxedo Baptist Church and retired from J.P Steven's as Plant Engineer, having worked there 47 years.
He was also a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Benham Naval destroyer. He was proud to have served his country and to be a member of the "Greatest Generation".
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Shipman Pace. Ray and Virginia were married 66 years. Ray has two daughters, Judy Pace Lively and husband, Mickey Lively, and Kathy (Kitty) Pace Woody and husband, Scott Woody. He is also survived by his brother, Carroll Pace, of Tuxedo; sister, Betty Pace Ward, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two granddaughters, Christy Lively Brandt, husband Jeffrey, Stacey Lively Redden, husband Art; grandson, Michael Lively; seven great-grandchildren, Rebekah and Tucker Brandt, Reese Redden, Austin, Haley, and Chloe Lively, and Lexi Bryson, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Pace, and two brothers, Frank Pace and Harold Pace.
He was a loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather and great-grandfather. His pride and joy was his family who were with him until the end.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Tuxedo First Baptist Church. Family and friends will be received one hour before the service with a procession to Forest Lawn Memorial Park immediately following. The Rev. Mikell Bennett and the Rev. Harold McKinnish will officiate.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Four Seasons Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
