HENDERSONVILLE - Mary Lee Herzel, 98, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2013, at her home with her family by her side.
A native of Mecklenburg County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Willie and Nethelia Doggett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by all her siblings and a daughter, Barbara Nieminsky.
She was an active member of the Upward Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hendersonville. She and her Pastor husband served in various Seventh-day Adventist churches for 70 years. Mary Lee enjoyed working with young people from pre-school to teens. She also conducted cooking classes, volunteered with Adventist Community Services in several states, and recently knitted more than 150 lap robes and baby blankets to be donated to those in need.
Surviving is her husband of 74 years, Edward F. Herzel, of the home; sons, Frederick Herzel (Edith), of Fletcher and Daniel Herzel (Meredith), of Columbia, Md.; daughter, Judy Halleron (George), of Marble; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in the Upper Room at Fletcher Park Inn in Hendersonville. A second memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Mary 11, in the Morganton Seventh-day Adventist Church in Morganton.
