HENDERSONVILLE-Lorraine Blanchard Finley, 91, of Hendersonville died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Southbridge, MA on December 20, 1921 to the late James and Lucy Burke Blanchard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Finley; and niece, Gail Dabbs.

Mrs. Finley led a busy and fulfilling life. Mrs. Finley operated Newark Stationary Store for 10 years and also had a busy and widely oriented career in community service. Mrs. Finley played a big role in the establishment of the Walworth-Seely Public Library in Walworth, NY. She served as the first president of the library board from 1961 until 1971. On May 21, 2007 she was recognized for her volunteer work during the 1960s and 1970s in Walworth and Wayne County, NY and May 21st was officially claimed as Lorraine Finley day by the Walworth Town Board. For her volunteer work involving the Walworth-Seely Public Library, Walworth Chamber of Commerce, Walworth Loan Closet, and Wayne Central School Board, she received the Community Service Award from the Walworth Historical Society. While living in Hendersonville she sat on the Henderson County Nursing Home Board for several years. She enjoyed china painting, and music, reflected by a collection of 80 music boxes and a beautiful oil painting of a lighthouse that her grandfather tended off of the coast of Nova Scotia. Lorraine and her husband Joe spent their six month honeymoon traveling 9,000 miles across the country frequently "camping" out in the back of their station wagon. In 1977 they moved to Aiken, SC to escape the winters in New York. In 1984 they moved to Hendersonville, NC. She had a fascination with clowns, and decided to attend Clown College in Wisconsin and had frequently "clowned" in Hendersonville nursing homes.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary Finley, Lee Finley; six grandchildren, Erik Finley, Jennifer Jones, Joshua Finley, Justyne Reese, Jesse Finley, Jacqueline Ramey; eleven great-grandchildren; two nieces, Belinda Mills, Rochelle Shaffer; four nephews, Gaylord Finley, Richard Finley, Frank Finley, and Scott Finley.
A memorial service will be held July 8th, 2013 at 1:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Walworth, NY.
