HENDERSONVILLE-Elizabeth Fisk Todd Bell, 90, of Hendersonville, NC died Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
Betty was born August 30, 1923 to the late James Todd, Jr. and Elizabeth Fisk Todd. She was a native of Long Island, NY and Nantucket, MA. She leaves behind a sister Sidney Todd Moxham of Arizona.
She received her BA degree in Elementary Education and taught at Great Neck Country Day School. She was also director of St. Paul's Day School in Great Neck, Long Island.
She and her husband later moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she continued teaching at St. Ambrose while substituting at Driftwood Elementary. While living in Florida, she became President of the Daughter of the King, a spiritual order of the Protestant Episcopal Church.
After moving to Hendersonville, she made her Profession to the Third Order of the Society of St. Francis in 1979.
Betty was active in the Art League at the Opportunity House. She also painted animal portraits and donated the proceeds to the Humane Society and St. John- In-The-Wilderness. Additionally, she tutored for Literacy Council for 3 years.
Betty was active in the church. She was director of Sunday School, worked in the book exchange, and was a Lay Eucharistic Minister. She was devoted to her loving church family at St. John In-The- Wilderness.
Survivors include two daughters, Heidi Sprowls married to Bill Sprowls of East Flat Rock, NC and Carolyn Heard, married to John Heard of Tucson Arizona. She was preceded in death by her son George Hamilton Bell, Jr. who is survived by his devoted wife Barbara Bell.
Betty's husband, George Hamilton Bell preceded her in death in 1981.
Other survivors include her eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; a great granddaughter preceded her in death.
The Lord, the Church, and her family were most important to her. She also loved her Carolina Village family dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Village Hall at Carolina Village.
