HENDERSONVILLE-Leo G. Temples, Jr., 80, passed away at his home in Hendersonville on Sunday, August 17, after a prolonged illness. He was born on December 25, 1933, in Sylva, North Carolina, where his father was the medical director of the Smokemont CCC camp.

Leo graduated from Bolles Military School in Jacksonville, Florida and attended the University of Florida for two years before joining the Navy where he served as a fighter pilot on the USS Forrestal during its maiden voyage. He left the Navy as a Commander and returned to UF to complete his degree in 1962. In civilian life, Leo was both the first Vice President and Director of Personnel at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.
In 2005 Leo retired to Hendersonville to enjoy his mountains, his cats, and his beloved Gators. Leo was preceded in death by his son, George Temples, and his parents, Dr. Leo G. Temples, MD, and Edna Mae Bowen Temples. He is survived by his four children: Cheryl, Bo, Marlene, Vincent, and his wife, Ann Lorge of Hendersonville. He is also survived by his brother Andrew J. Temples of Jacksonville.
