HENDERSONVILLE - Ruth E. Nelson, 95, of Hendersonville died on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Carolina Village Medical Center. A native of Bay City, Mich., she was born on October 26, 1917, to the late Arthur Garfield Nelson and Bessie Swearingen Nelson. She was also preceded in death by both her brother, John P. "Jack" Nelson and her sister, Ann Elizabeth "Lib" of Science degree from University of California, Los Angeles in 1941. She became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and lived in the Theta House while attending school at UCLA. She taught in Highland Park, Ill., and then attended Chicago Teachers College of Library Science and became a Librarian in Lake Forest, Ill. She retired to Henderson County in 1980.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville, a member of the Hendersonville Single Women's Group and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by six nephews; three nieces; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
At the request of the family, no local services are planned at this time.
