COLUMBUS –Jerome Albert Moede, 93, of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC, passed into eternal life on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
Born in Windom, MN on June 23, 1919 to Jonas and Barbara Blaha Moede, he grew up in St. James, MN, and completed his undergraduate studies at St. Mary College in Winona, MN, his Masters degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and his PhD in physical chemistry at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
He married O. Taveta Staton on June 26, 1943 in Blacksburg, VA. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage before she predeceased him on March 29, 2008.
His career as a research chemist with E.I. DuPont spanned over 30 years, primarily in the Rochester, NY Photo Products Division. While there, he was granted several patents.
He enjoyed travel, nature, life-long learning and volunteering; sharing his expertise and his time with his family and within the communities in which he lived.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Adonna (Moede) Friesen.
Surviving are his 7 children: Damian Jerome Moede of Roanoke, VA, Barbara Jo Moede (Ed O'Leyar) of Rochester, NY, Michael (Joan) Moede of Midland, MI, David (Crystal) Moede of Riva, MD, Ann (Rick) Inzinna of Brooksville, FL, Thomas (Carol) Moede of Rochester, NY and Adonna (John) Lee of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date in St. James, MN.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 7 at the Tryon Estates Auditorium, Columbus, NC, with Rev. Ralph Kuether officiating.
