Mary Jane Mills Renuart Obituary
VERO BEACH FL-Mary Jane, January 9, 1927 - June 19, 2013, born to Susan Menette Weaver in Detroit Michigan, with an older sister Madeline, moved to South Florida when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Barry University in 1948 summa cum laude with a degree in English. At the wedding of a close college friend, she met the brother of the groom, Albert Renuart. They were married November 11, 1950. They had 5 children and shared 52 loving years together. She is survived by four of her children, Denis, Raymond, Stephen and Susan, and her son-in-law Edmund Thornton Jr. and daughter-in-law Ana Renuart. Her youngest son, Kenneth, was killed in an accident at the age of 28. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Edith, Edmund III and Michael Thornton; Jean-Paul, Jennifer, Joseph, Jonathan and Sean Forrest Renuart. She was captivated by her great-granddaughter, Everly Daman. When her children started kindergarten, Mary Jane managed the Exotic Gardens florist. As the children grew, she switched to teaching, eventually focusing on English literature and journalism at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy high school. When her children were small the family spent many vacations camping in Florida state parks. When her children were teenagers, they built a lovely home in the mountains of North Carolina, where Mary Jane and Albert spent many years enjoying the lakes and mountains. When the children were grown, they spent their summers in Carolina and their winters in South Florida.
The family attended St. Louis Church in Miami. After retiring, Albert was ordained a deacon in the church and was assigned to St. Louis parish in South Miami as well as Immaculate Conception in Hendersonville, NC. Mary Jane worked at both churches, assisting the pastors, doing facilities management and served on the design board with Albert for the new church of the Immaculate Conception in Hendersonville.
When Albert passed away in 2002, she sold her NC home and moved to Vero Beach, Florida to be closer to her grandchildren and family. She was active in the St. Helen's Church with the volunteer groups and prayer groups and lived quite independently, continuing to care for her children from a distance.
She has been taken back to Heaven by a very aggressive pancreatic cancer, which she accepted graciously as God's plan for her. As she told her children, "If this is the way God wants me to go, who am I to argue with him." Mary Jane lived her life and passed from it with great devotion, love and courage. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until 12:00 noon Saturday, June 22 at Stanfill F.H. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7270 SW 120 St. in Pinecrest. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL. (www.vnatc.com)
