HENDERSONVILLE - Marie Edney Moore, 85, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Friday, August 16, 2013 with her children by her side. Since her recent diagnosis of cancer, she resided at Spring Arbor in Greensboro, NC. She was born September 16, 1927 to the late Hester and Clarence Edney; she was preceded in death by 8 siblings: Myrtle Shupe, Walter Edney, Leola Hendrix, Ed Edney, Mae Hammack, Frank Edney, Vernon Edney, and Jo Arrowood.
After working for the City of Hendersonville for 12 years, she then devoted her time to her family and volunteering for numerous local organizations. Her volunteer work included: VFW Auxiliary, Red Cross Bloodmobile, Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue Auxiliary, Keep NC Clean & Beautiful, Henderson County Heart Assoc., Henderson County Community Development, Tracy Grove Community Club, and up until her death served on the Farm City Day Planning Committee.
A lifelong resident of Hendersonville, she was also preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Harold Jack Moore. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Moore Kirkman and her husband Brian of Greensboro, NC; a son, Danny Moore of Hendersonville; and three grandchildren, Nathan Kirkman, Natalie Kirkman, and Tasha Moore.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at her home Monday evening, August 19, 2013.
