HENDERSONVILLE-Henry Warren Ballou of Hendersonville passed away peacefully on the morning of August 27th. He is survived by Martha Jean (Caird) Ballou, his loving wife of 64 years, and daughters Jane Ware of Asheville, Andie (& Karl) Bush of IL, Mary Jean (& Eric) Bulis of NJ, and Amy (& Tim) Smith of NY. "Hank" leaves behind his stepbrother Joe Lynch, nephew George Lynch, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and countless friends across the country.
Born in Holyoke, MA on May 16, 1924, Hank was the son of Lousana and Henry Warren Ballou, Sr. Having served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, he earned his MS in Food Technology at University of Missouri. His career took him to Beechnut, Libby McNeil & Libby, and Nestlé, in upstate NY, San Jose, and Chicago. Upon retirement, Hank and Marty enjoyed wonderful years exploring the country in their RV, and then settled in Hendersonville to practice their master gardener skills. They volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, and Hank pursued his passion for fine woodworking. With Marty, he was an active member of English Chapel in Pisgah Forest.
There will be a small gathering of family and friends on Saturday in Hendersonville. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
