HENDERSONVILLE-Thomas Theobald Poleman Jr., 85, passed away June 20, 2014 at his home in Hendersonville, North Carolina. His loving wife of 58 years, Charlotte, was by his side.

He was born November 28, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, son of the late Thomas Theobald Poleman Sr. and Georgia Riddle.
Tom, as he was known to his family and friends, was a US Air Force veteran. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Missouri in 1952 and his Doctorate from Stanford University in 1960. He was an inspiring Professor of International Agricultural Economics at Cornell University; a preeminent authority on world hunger, population and employment; and was published numerous times.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Carol Becker (Charlie), Clare Stephenson (Pat), Walter Poleman (Pat Straughan) and Tom Poleman (Ginny); 12 grandchildren; and a newly born great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, Flat Rock, NC.
