Earl Lawson, 80, of Holts Summit, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on November 27, 1934, in Allison, Texas, the son of Harmon D. Lawson, Sr. and Lillian Mae (Bunch) Lawson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on February 12, 1988, in Harrison, Arkansas, to Phyllis Kay Owens who survives of the home.
He was in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of VFW Post #2591 in Sedalia. Earl worked for Southwestern Bell/ATT for over 40 years as a lineman. He was an avid Harley-Davidson owner and rider; he loved yard work and gardening, and enjoyed cold iced tea. He did contracting work and was able to fix almost anything. More than anything, he treasured time spent with family and friends, especially his daughter, Dakota and grandchild Coty Whiteman. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and volunteered with the Union Hill Food Pantry. Mr. Lawson also volunteered for many military funerals.
Besides his wife of over 27 years, he is survived by: four sons, Robert Lawson of Cameron, Mo.; Timothy Lawson and wife Tammy of Topeka, Kans.; William "Brad" Lawson and Tina Downs of Sedalia, Mo.; and Mark Lawson of Sedalia, Mo.; daughter Dakota Ridgel and husband Francis of Holts Summit; stepchildren: Teri Burnett and husband Kenny of Roundrock, Texas; and Mike Whiteman of Fulton, Mo.; one sister, Ruby Ritchie of West Monroe, La.; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step- great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Erica Lawson, a step-son: Dennis Whiteman, two brothers and four sisters.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit. A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Union Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor Frank Whitney officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be given to Union Hill Baptist Church Food Pantry.
