Aileen Celeste Odneal, 92, passed from this life to her eternal reward 8 p.m., April 17, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia, Mo.
Aileen was born March 2, 1919, on her parent's farm home, NW of Prairie Home, Mo., the third child of Lawrence Frederick and Mattie Belle Simmons Pfeiffer.
Visitation for Aileen will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. Funeral services will be held at Prairie Home Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, with Rev. Myron Couch and Rev. Lewis Odneal officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Boonville.
She attended Providence Grade School and three years at Prairie Home High School.
In January 1934 she was invited to Sunday dinner at Jeff Odneal's home. Little did she know this would be the day she would meet her future husband. On Nov. 3, 1934, she married Dennis Truman Odneal at the Prairie Home Baptist Church Parsonage by Rev. Blaylock.
Their first winter was spent on a farm in the Missouri River bottom near Overton, Mo. The next spring the Missouri River flooded and they returned to the Prairie Home community where they would live the rest of their life.
On Aug. 25, 1935, she made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior at Pisgah Baptist Church. Christ would remain the center of her life until her death. About 1947 she and Dennis moved their membership to Prairie Home Baptist Church and it remained there. She taught in Vacation Bible School and Sunday school for over 40 years. It is impossible to count the children whose lives she touched for the Lord.
The marriage was blessed with four children; Alice Jeanette, born Dec. 26, 1938; Linda Fae, born Sept. 28, 1941; Hugh Marvin, born Sept. 15, 1943; and Lawrence Keith, born Dec. 17, 1956.
Aileen and Dennis were farmers and raised turkeys. Aileen also worked at the Selwyn Shoe Factory and McGraw Edison, both in Boonville, Mo. She retired from factory work in 1982. Due to Dennis' health problems they moved from the farm to Prairie Home Senior Housing in 1985. On Nov. 3, 1988, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the Prairie Home Baptist Church.
Aileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis, on July 30, 1993, one grandson, Christopher Todd Odneal, July 23, 1985, one sister, and two brothers. She is survived by her four children, 10 grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren, as well as one sister, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Prairie Home Baptist Church or Lions Club Eye Bank or the Prairie Home Lion's Club.
