Betty Jean (Voelkel) Thomas, 80, of Fayette and formerly of Franklin, passed away May 28, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville.
Mrs. Thomas was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Franklin, Mo., to Elwood C. and Margarette Wyatt Voelkel. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of New Franklin High School and resided in Franklin, Mo., for 65 years and moved to Fayette because of the 1993 flood. She was a member of the Franklin Foursquare Church for many years. She moved her church membership to the Fayette Assembly of God Church in 1984 and later to the Centralia Assembly of God Church. She was a factory worker in Boonville and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Jo Peeler of New Franklin and Susie Thomas of Boonville; two sons, John Thomas of Fayette and William Thomas of Franklin and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Thomas; her parents; two sisters, Lillian Coleman and Dorothy Fisher; a nephew, Randall Ballew and a great-niece, Karianna Ballew.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. David Hartgrove officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin. Pallbearers will be Ross Dowell, Patrick Hogan, Dan Meder, Ray Thomas, Bobby Twenter and Will Twenter. Visitation will be Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service.
