Dale H. Sterling, age 96, of Boonville, Missouri passed away December 22, 2015 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville.
Dale Sterling was born March 13, 1919 in Milan, Missouri to the late Claget Ralph and Eunice Blanche Henry Sterling. He married Billie Louise Branstetter on May 24, 1942. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2013 after 71 years of marriage.
Mr. Sterling served his nation during World War II in the Air Corps attaining the rank of major at the time of his discharge. He graduated from Milan High School and received a degree in education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville and his masters degree from the University of Missouri.
Prior to World War II he taught school in Warrenton and following his service he taught for 34 years in the New Franklin Public Schools teaching music, choir, driver's education and business classes. Mr. Sterling farmed in Howard County for many years.
He was a member of the New Franklin United Methodist Church where he had served as choir director and choir member. Dale was also a member of the Boonville Boot and Saddle Club and shared his musical talents by singing at community functions and funerals until recently.
Survivors include a son, Billy Bruce Sterling of Boonville; a daughter, Cynthia Sterling Zolk of LaGrange, Illinois; three grandchildren, Randall Zolk, Loren Zolk and Kimberly Stromer and eight great-grandchildren, Ryland Zolk, Elliott Zolk, Lydia Zolk, Maxine Zolk, Lucy Zolk, Henry Stromer, Jack Stromer and George Stromer
Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the New Franklin United Methodist Church, 107 N. Missouri St., New Franklin, Mo., with Rev. Michael Keith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, New Franklin, Mo.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the New Franklin United Methodist Church or Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
