Dane C. Gregg, 57, of Boonville, passed away at his home on Monday, Mar. 17, 2014 following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services for Dane will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his Alma Mater, Boonville High School with Rev. Mel Eaton and Rev. David Purvis officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Dane will lie in state in the Boonville High School gymnasium on Friday evening Mar. 21st from 4:00 until 8:00 o'clock where friends and admirers may pay their respects.
Dane Carlton Gregg was born May 20, 1956 in Houston, Texas, the son of the late Doyle Gregg and Donna Letzring Reagan. His family moved to Boonville in 1966 and Dane has been an asset to Boonville ever since. He graduated from Boonville High in 1974 at which time he joined the United States Marines and was a proud Marine till the time he died and was honored to be chosen for the Missouri Veteran's Honor Flight last year. He married Jackie Hofstetter July 9, 1983 in Columbia, MO and they are the parents of two children. He accepted a baseball scholarship to Kemper Military College. He received a degree in broadcasting and journalism in Texas. He started his career in broadcasting at KWRT radio in 1980 as a play by play announcer in all sports at BHS until just this past season and later became a local celebrity as the voice of KWRT for the past several years. Dane loved Boonville and had served on numerous boards and service organizations, including Jaycees, American Legion, Eagles, Masons, Shriners, Lions, as well as acting as mayor of Windsor Village, vice president of Cooper County Public Water supply, president of Missouri Extension and treasurer of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, as well as being very active in the cancer Relay for Life and its fight against cancer. Above all, his biggest accomplishment was being a wonderful husband to Jackie, father to two children, Sara and Tyler and the greatest pa pa to his grandchild, Ava.
Dane was preceded in death by his father, Doyle C. Gregg, his nephew, Jason Oswald and brother-in-law, David Dodson. He is survived by his parents, Gene and Donna Reagan, his step mother, Francine Gregg, his wife, Jackie, his children, Tyler Gregg and Sara and her husband, Bobby Werneke, granddaughter Ava Werneke and one on the way. His siblings; Dean (Melissa) Reagan, Darrin (Brenda) Reagan, step-brother, Dennis (Paula Kaye) Tharp and DeeAnn (Butch) Ducote, Dana (Gerald) Williams, Debbie (Darrell) Bailey, Vicki (Walter) Rutledge, Clark (Robin) Hofstetter Audrey Patterson and step-sister, Debbie Tharp as well as his mother and father-in-law, Ross and Norma Hofstetter and many nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be directed to the family.
