Dorothy Mae Rentel, 93, of Pilot Grove, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville.
She was born February 27, 1921, in Cooper County, daughter of John and Nellie Smith Davis. On April 21, 1942, in Clear Creek, she married Robert J. Rentel Sr., who preceded her in death on March 17, 2001.
Mrs. Rentel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Altar Society. In high school she was a star basketball player. After her marriage she worked alongside her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, playing croquet, and playing cards. She was a great cook and was an exceptionally strong, hardworking woman. The joys of her life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are four children: Joyce Vollrath (James), of Pilot Grove, R.J. Rentel Jr. (Pat), of Pilot Grove, Marty Twenter (Larry), of Boonville, and Alice Brownfield (John), of Raymore; a daughter-in-law, Janice Rentel, of Prairie Home; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Marie Young, of Pilot Grove; a sister-in-law, Grace Gerling, of Pilot Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Rentel; an infant great-grandson Greyson James Rentel, two sisters, Mary Frances Bean and Edna Grace Everett; and an infant brother, Vincent Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove, with Father Phil Kane officiating.
Casket bearers will be Rhonda Schlotzhauer, Darrin Vollrath, Russell Rentel, Todd Rentel, Brent Rentel, Timm Rentel, Kyle Day and Jeff Brownfield.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Clear Creek.
The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. John's Cemetery, in care of Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove.
