Elmer Harold Jaeger, 93, of Boonville, passed away on April 4, 2014 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Elmer will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel in Boonville at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 8th. Family will receive friends from 10:00 o'clock until time of service. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Elmer H. Jaeger was born on his parents' farm west of Boonville on July 18, 1920. He was the son of Ernest and Nora Caroline (Moehle) Jaeger. Elmer attended Clear Springs School west of Boonville and then graduated from Boonville High School in 1938. He then attended the University of Missouri. After entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, he attended pilot school and was commissioned as a Lieutenant. He was sent to Carlsbad, New Mexico, to train fighter pilots for deployment overseas. On August 29, 1942 he married Fern Geneva Gillette of St. Louis. When WWII ended in 1945 they returned to Boonville and raised their family of four children. In the years following, Mr. Jaeger farmed and worked at multiple jobs including U.S. mail carrier, Smith Hatchery in Pilot Grove, Boonville Training School and as a financial accountant for R. D. Patrick Livestock Sales & Commission. In 1951 Mr. Jaeger was elected Cooper County Circuit Clerk and Recorder, and held that office for 20 years. In 1971, Mr. Jaeger accepted the position of Vice President of Boonslick Savings and Loan Association. He retired as President of this association in 1987. He served on the Boonville R-I School District Board of Education from 1964 to 1972, and served as Treasurer of the Board starting in 1966 and continuing as Treasurer until 1979. Mr. Jaeger was a well-respected business man in the community and a loving support for his family and their many activities. He enjoyed baseball from coaching his boys in Little League to supporting the St. Louis Cardinals, his favorite major league team.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Fern, of the home and his children; Sherry Lang and husband Kenny of New Franklin; Larry Jaeger and wife Connie of Kingwood, Texas; Tom Jaeger and Gail Thomason of Ashton, Maryland, and Wayne (Skip) Jaeger and wife Pam of Boonville, Missouri. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Chris Jaeger, Jennifer Karp, Kevin Lang, Kurt Lang, Joel Jaeger, Julie Jaeger, Kelly Morris, Kim Walker, and Angela Havens and 17 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nora Jaeger; two sisters, Margaret (Ray) Kruger and Clara (Frank) Kruger; one infant brother; and one grandson, Kirk Lang.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Boonville R-I Education Foundation or the Boonslick Regional Library Boonville Building Fund.
