Elmer I. Nelson, 91, Bunceton, MO passed away late Sunday evening, October 7, 2012 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO surrounded by his family.

Visitation for Elmer will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Davis Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Oct 10, 2012. Friends may call from noon until time of visitation. Funeral services will be held at Bunceton Federated Church at 11:00 am Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 with Rev. Scott Ehrlich officiating. Burial will follow in the Bunceton Masonic Cemetery with full military honors.
Elmer was born October 15, 1920, near Milnor, North Dakota, the eighth child of nine born to Martin and Agnes Evenson Nelson.
December 15, 1942, Elmer was inducted into the United States Army. He was part of the Normandy Invasion and was wounded June 18, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal. He was Honorably Discharged November 15, 1945.
On June 8, 1946 in Kansas City, MO he married Dorotha V. Foster, who survives of the home.
Elmer and Dorotha moved to a farm near Bunceton in January 1947. He enjoyed camping and his farm.
Elmer was a member of the Bunceton Federated Church.
Elmer was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Nels Nelson, Melvin Nelson, Oscar Nelson, and Edwin Nelson; 3 sisters Anna (Nelson) Stockstad, Mayme (Nelson) Sebens, and Selma "Sally" (Nelson) Niles. He is survived by 1 daughter, Judy Kay, with husband Robert Rowles, granddaughter, Sheila, with husband Billy Joe Moon and great-grandson, Mitchell Moon all of Tipton, MO, 1 sister, Myrtle (Nelson) Bidgood, Mankato, Minnesota, 1 sister-in-law Myrt Waalen, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Bunceton Federated Church or to that of the donor's choice.
