Gerald "Jerry" Winston Gladden, 85, of Springfield, IL, passed away on June 18, 2010. He was born in Turley, MO on March 25, 1925, the youngest son of Adeline and Donald Gladden of Springfield, MO. His wife of many years, Norma Gladden, died December 19, 1991. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wendell, Russell, and a sister Audrey Oliver. Leslie Gladden, his brother, passed away the afternoon of Jerry's death. Jerry served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. He was discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 1946.
Jerry graduated with Honors from the University of Illinois earning a B.S. in 1967 and a Masters of Education in 1969. He was employed by the State Board of Education in Springfield, Illinois for 25 years, retiring in December of 1991. Past memberships include the Illinois Vocational Association, American Technical Education Association and the Mensa Society. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are sisters-in-law Betty Gladden and Nellie Gladden; nieces, Carolyn Gibson, Donna Gladden, Patty Schindhelm; nephews, Gary Gladden, Gene Gladden, Ken Oliver and Larry Oliver.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon with Rev. Dr. Wayne Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent in Jerry's memory to the .
