Helen Louise (Kuhn) Edwards, 89, Prairie Home, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, MO.
She was born July 5, 1922, in Jacksonville, MO, the daughter of William McKinley "Mack" Kuhn and Blanche Marie (Griesbach) Kuhn, who preceded her in death. She was married April 13, 1941 in Prairie Home, MO, to Roy Truman "Frosty" Edwards, who also preceded her in death.
Helen was a 1940 graduate of Prairie Home High School, where she was valedictorian and a member of championship sports and debate teams. Throughout her life Helen was a member of the Prairie Home United Methodist Church where she played organ and piano as well as taught Sunday school. In her younger years she worked for her father at Kuhn's General Store. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the Prairie Home Feed Mill. She was a 4-H leader during her children's years of membership and supported them in their many other musical and sports oriented activities. Helen was an active participant as well as a supporter of her entire family's horse showing and training endeavors. She has played organ for countless horseshows in this state and others. Helen was most definitely a "farmer", not just a farm wife. For the past 40 years she has been popularly known as "Granny Helen" through her loving involvement in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. She loved all children and animals in an open and joyous way that drew them to her.
Survivors include one brother Mack Kuhn of Independence, MO. Her children Sharon Gail (Edwards) Roedel, David Roy Edwards with his wife Kellie of Prairie Home, MO, Diane Louise (Edwards) Kobel with her husband Ralph of California, MO; ten grandchildren Pam & Bill Goff, Jennifer & Gordon Sorrells, Ethan Edwards, Jeffrey Roedel, John Kobel, Jason Moats, Bambi Turek and Jeff Moats and eight great-grandchildren Cody Goff, Neena Goff, Bret Goff, Mack Sorrells, Jolene Sorrells, Devan Moats, Clarice Turek, and Cooper Brown.
Visitation will be held at the Prairie Home United Methodist Church, Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; with the Memorial Service at 4:30 p.m. A covered dish meal for the family will immediately follow all services at the fellowship hall. Burial of cremains will be delayed for an undetermined time due to Helen's choice to participate in the "Gift of Body" program at the University of Missouri Lupus Foundation.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family c/o David Edwards 22933 Gilbreath Road, Prairie Home, MO 65068 or Jennifer Sorrells 114 Pennview Drive Jamestown, MO 65046.
