James David Griffith, 83, of Jamestown, MO passed away Monday, November 4, 2013 at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia MO. He was born on October 7, 1930 in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas the son of William Thomas and Ethel (Sailes) Griffith. He was married January 31, 1953 in Reno, Nevada to Oneta Latham who preceded him in death on March 13, 2000. James served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict from 1948-1952, was licensed to preach from Jamestown Baptist Church, taught Sunday School at Jamestown Baptist church for many years teaching the adult class, helped start churches in San Jose, California and Oil Dale, California. He did prison ministry in Tipton, Missouri in the 70's. James was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Clarksburg, Missouri where his son was a pastor for several years. He is survived by one daughter; Loretta Jones (Dennis) of Columbia, MO., four sons; Larry Griffith (Alice) of Boonville MO., David Griffith (Sandy) of Jamestown, MO., Del Griffith (Patti) of Hatton, MO., and Danny Griffith of California MO., one brother; Bill Griffith of San Diego, CA. 20 grand children, and numerous great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Interment with full military honors will be at Union Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Hal McNeal. Visitation will be Saturday November 9, 2013 at 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials contributions may be given to: Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.
