James P. "Jimmy" Dorsey, 76, of Boonville, MO passed on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital, Boonville, MO.
Services will be held at noon at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, MO, on Saturday, November 30, 2013, with visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service, with Masonic Services officiated by Mitch Wiensting.
Jimmy was born in Columbia, MO on August 3, 1937, to Andrew T. Dorsey, Sr. and Jean Allen Dorsey. He spent most of his early life in Columbia, except for an "exciting" three years in Rocheport.
He was involved in trucking most of his life, beginning as a driver for Midwest Brewing of Columbia. In 1975, he began a 26 year association with National Carriers Inc. of Liberal, KS, first as a driver, then an owner-operator in 1977. Seven years later, he bought five trucks and became a small fleet owner, with employees, eventually growing to fifteen, before downsizing and finally retiring in 2007.
Jimmy was a member of Masonic Twilight Lodge #114, Aleppo Grotto, Columbia Shrine, Tiger Motor Patrol, and Elks Lodge #594. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and MU Sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kitty Dorsey Gordon; two sons, Jim Dorsey Jr., and Rusty Polson; two grandchildren, Josh Dorsey and Cheyene Davidson.
He is survived by Patty, his wife of 40 years, and six children, Brenda Plute, Beverly McCulloch, and Debbie Efting, all of Springfield, MO, Steve Wright (Tammy) of Odessa, MO, Jay Dorsey (Rebecca) of Blue Springs, MO and Randy Polson (Angie) of Iconium, MO. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Cancer Research Center of Columbia, Shriner's Children's Hospital, or an organization of your choice.
