Jerry L. James, of New Franklin, passed away June 18 at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville. He was 76 years old.

Jerry James was born Sept. 28, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Noah Henry and Hildred Kathryn Barnes James, and was raised by his mother and step-father William Dodson. He married Shirley Ann Smith on Feb. 26, 1954, at the New Franklin Christian Church. She survives at the family home.
Mr. James was a journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and had also been employed previously with the Federal Aviation Administration, and was a successful small business owner as a Certified Electronics Technician. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the New Franklin Christian Church.
He enjoyed many hobbies during his life that include being a 1st Class Ham Radio operator, an avid fisherman, and a golf enthusiast. He also enjoyed and excelled at being an amateur photographer. Mr. James was very interested in Civil War history and spent many hours with his metal detectors discovering and preserving that era's history.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley James of New Franklin; a son, John James and wife, Kimberly of New Franklin; three daughters, Jennifer Friedrich and husband, Jim; Julie Christus and husband, Pete; Jill Oser and husband, David all of Boonville; a brother Gary Wayne James and wife, Fern of Rocheport; two sisters, Joan Head of Ashland and Jackie Kimsey and husband, Charles of Bunceton. Also cherishing his memory are his grandchildren, Michelle Gentzel and husband Jonathan; Laura Robinson and husband, Mike; Mary Goetze and husband, Mike; Rebecca, Lucas and Michael Oswald; Nick Christus and wife, Sarah; Andrew Christus; Allison Saufnauer and husband, Eric; Hannah Christus and Tanner Dodson and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; and a granddaughter, Christy Friedrich.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Roger McMurry officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
